My Final Year Projects

These are some of my FYP Projects. For all you non-engineers out there, ain't you glad you're not studying engineering?!?! For the engineers, how damn interesting rite!

Development of a remote virtual CNC machining system
The technology of Virtual Reality (VR) has become a popular user interface tool due to the
advancement in computer technologies. The Internet technology has also broken the boundary
of time and space underlying the distributed information framework. An integrated Web-based
VR CNC system has been reported recently. The system can be used to activate the remote
CNC machines for NC code generation and machining. In collaborating with the overseas
partner, you will further verify the system for its feasibility and develop an interface locally to
work with the remote partners geographically dispersed.

Study of a biomimetic for micro gripping
Micro grippers are used to hold micro components during various manufacturing operations.
Such grippers must have the capability to provide sub-micron position resolution. When dealing
with such level of precision, careful design is required to make sure that the outputs of the
mechanism meet the design requirements such as high holding strength in a very small area.
This study continues an earlier project to investigate the characteristics of Gecko feet which
have very high strength to hold the weight of the Gecko while climbing smooth vertical surfaces.
An attempt will be made to design and fabricate a simple new class of biologically inspired
micro gripper mimicking creatures like Gecko, which can be used to hold very small
workpieces.

Micro EDM of tungsten carbide
Tungsten carbide moulds are preferred over currently used steel moulds for direct fabrication of
glass micro lenses. Such moulds are either machined by grinding or by electro discharge
machining (EDM) processes. In this study, EDM process will be applied to achieve nano
surface finish on such moulds.

Things ppl actually said in court

Read this from Mr Brown's blog
----------
Things people actually said in court, word for word, taken down and now published by court reporters who had the torment of staying calm while these exchanges were actually taking place.

Q: Are you sexually active?
A: No, I just lie there.

Q: What is your date of birth?
A: July 18th
Q: What year?
A: Every year.

Q: What gear were you in at the moment of the impact?
A: Gucci sweats and Reeboks.

Q: This myasthenia gravis, does it affect your memory at all?
A: Yes.
Q: And in what ways does it affect your memory?
A: I forget.
Q: You forget? Can you give us an example of something that you’ve forgotten?

Q: How old is your son, the one living with you?
A: Thirty-eight or thirty-five, I can’t remember which.
Q: How long has he lived with you?
A: Forty-five years.

Q: What was the first thing your husband said to you whenhe woke up that morning?
A: He said, “Where am I, Cathy?”
Q: And why did that upset you?
A: My name is Susan.

Q: Do you know if your daughter has ever been involved in voodoo or the occult?
A: We both do.
Q: Voodoo.
A: We do.
Q: You do?
A: Yes, voodoo.

Q: Now doctor, isn’t it true that when a person dies in his sleep, he doesn’t know about it until the next morning?
A: Did you actually pass the bar exam?

Q: Was this a male, or a female?

Q: Is your appearance here this morning pursuant to a deposition notice which I sent to your attorney?
A: No, this is how I dress when I go to work.

Q: Doctor, how many autopsies have you performed on deadpeople?
A: All my autopsies are performed on dead people.

Q: ALL your responses MUST be oral, OK? What school did yougo to?
A: Oral.

Q: Do you recall the time that you examined the body?
A: The autopsy started around 8:30 p.m.
Q: And Mr. Dennington was dead at the time?

Q: Doctor, before you performed the autopsy, did you check for a pulse?
A: No.
Q: Did you check for blood pressure?
A: No.
Q: Did you check for breathing?
A: No.
Q: So, then it is possible that the patient was alive whenyou began the autopsy?
A: No.
Q: How can you be so sure, Doctor?
A: Because his brain was sitting on my desk in a jar.
Q: But could the patient have still been alive, nevertheless?

Loose & Cruising

Computer Building 101

Heyo ding.

for the motherboard, i suggest either asus or msi.

the cpu/processor is really quite up to you. but i suggest going with the AMD. it's cheaper. and you don't really need dual processing unless you're seriously into multi-tasking.

you'll need ram, and i suggest 1gb and above. think it's rather cheap now anyway.

for graphics, that really depends... if you want to play games or not..... duh. the 2 main brands are ati or nvidia. they claim ati graphics looks better then nvidia... they look the same to me really. how much it'll set you back... depends on your budget really.

soundcard.. actually, onboard is okay. if you want, you can get a seperate card, what is does it's that it actually offloads some of the CPU usage. as when you use the onboard sound processor, it utilizes your CPU processor to help it process the sound signals. Anyway, since you mentioned that you wanted one, yah. go with creative.

you'll need speakers. if your pair is dead. don't get a super set of speakers unless you have a good soundcard to go with it.

you'll need a casing. floppy disk(which is used sometimes still, but rarely). keyboard, mouse.

DVD burners are rather cheap now. good investment. but been hearing that the dvds get mouldy quite fast in our weather.

You can re-use the hard disk, no problem with that.

for the firewire and usb, it'll come along with the motherboard. the bluetooth, i'm not too sure if they have integrated it with the motherboards yet, but i don't think so. you need to buy a seperate bit for that. you can buy one that's the size of the thumbdrive and plugs right into your usb port. get the version 2.0 of the bluetooth. not the older standard.

multislot card thingy, i think some motherboards bundle them together. and some casings have the thingy in front that allow you to do that. or you could buy the usb bit and plug it in.

the monitor is up to you. if apple is too expensive, go with either samsung/philips/viewsonic. i suggest you go down and see which monitor you like.

all in all, you'll need to have a budget 1st.

You appreciate a good beer, but you're not a snob about it.
You like your beer mild and easy to drink, so you can concentrate on being drunk.
Overall, you're a friendly drunk who's likely to buy a whole round for your friends... many times.
Sometimes you can be a bit boring when you drink. You may be prone to go on about topics no one cares about.

Spiritual Authority

Joshua, this is for you...

The Bible teaches that we are meant to be a powerful Church, daily walking in the authority and the victory that Jesus died for us to have. The question is, why aren't most of us living that powerful life, and how do we get there? This article provides some answers to that question.
The purpose of this article is to show you some specific, Scriptural things you can do to grow in spiritual maturity so that you can begin operating in higher levels of victory and authority. This will help you to become more fruitful and effective for the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ on this earth. The rest of the article

I'm not sure how accurate it is, maybe youwen or jason can confirm.
There's actually a lot of articles written here..

This is Youwen!

Minerva McGonagall
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Minerva McGonagall (born October 4, c. 1925) is a fictional character in the Harry Potter series of novels by J. K. Rowling. At the beginning of the stories she is deputy Headmistress at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, head of Gryffindor House, and Transfiguration teacher, which she began teaching in December of 1956. McGonagall considers Transfiguration to be the most complex and difficult branch of magic.
McGonagall has black hair, typically drawn into a tight bun. She wears emerald green robes, and always a very prim expression. She is, according to Rowling, a "sprightly" 70 years old. She wears square glasses which match the markings around the eyes of her tabby cat form (McGonagall is an Animagus - a witch or wizard who is able to transform into an amimal at will - the first one to be introduced in the series). She also has a fondness for tartan patterns, apparently derived from a Scottish heritage; even her dressing gown and biscuit tin have tartan patterns. Stern, snappy, and generally reserved, Professor McGonagall has nonetheless been shown to have in mind the best interests of the students at Hogwarts, her wards in Gryffindor, and Harry himself. McGonagall was also been one of Albus Dumbledore's staunchest supporters and is still a member of the Order of the Phoenix.

Your Love Languages

The Five Love Languages

My primary love language is probably
Acts of Service
with a secondary love language being
Receiving Gifts.

Complete set of results

Acts of Service: 9
Receiving Gifts: 8
Physical Touch: 6
Quality Time: 4
Words of Affirmation: 3

Information

Unhappiness in relationships, according to Dr. Gary Chapman, is often due to the fact that we speak different love languages. Sometimes we don't understand our partner's requirements, or even our own. We all have a "love tank" that needs to be filled in order for us to express love to others, but there are different means by which our tank can be filled, and there are different ways that we can express love to others.

Good luck KD!

Was taking a look at your tutorial.. And seriously, it's not simple! This is wat i learned only last semester, and i fucked up the module (didn't even manage to do any of the exam questions!)

It's a rigid body, so you have to use kinematics for rigid bodies
You have to use relative frames.
Draw 2 axes, one for the driving part, and another for the driven part.
find out how e 2 axes are related.
Use the general equation

Ok, the first thing to do now is DON'T GIVE UP!
Look thru the equation and give it some time..
All the superscript F are Fixed frames. Rs are Relative Frames.
For the subscripts, Q refers to the point you're interested in. P refers to a point on the driving body.
the normal fonts refers to the usual things, radius, omega, alpha, velocity, acceleration

If they expect you to do this question, then you should at least have come across this equation.
If not, well..... *salute* Good luck soldier!

  10. Without Mark Tay, we would have to pollinate apple trees by hand!

Happy Founder's Day!

Lest we forget..

In days of yore from western shores
Oldham dauntless hero came
and planted a Beacon of Truth and Light
in this island of the Main.
Here may it stand from year to year
emblem of grand endeavour
The regions round echo the sound
of A.C.S. forever.

(Chorus)Sing A.C.S. forever more,
our A.C.S. forever.
God save our land and heaven bless
our A.C.S. forever.

Our students hail from China's plains
and the Land of Rising Sun.
We have many sons from India's strand
and the islands of the Main.
Our hearts our hopes our aims are one.
No discord e'er will sever.
We'll stand together for the cause
of A.C.S. forever.

(Chorus again)Sing A.C.S. forever more,
our A.C.S. forever.
God save our land and heaven bless
our A.C.S. forever

Lock Picking!

Hey Thanks guys for helping me retrieve my bag from a locked NUS room. Details of the 'raid' is not given cos ............ it's illegal.

It was already caught on camera, so i'm expecting a call from the Dean very soon!

And to improve our macgaivar skills... Here's some tips on how to pick locks!

Most deadbolts use a cylinder lock. In the cylinder lock, the key turns a cylinder, or plug, which turns an attached cam. When the plug is turned one way, the cam pulls in on the bolt and the door can open. When the plug turns the other way, the cam releases the bolt and the spring snaps it into place so the door cannot open. In a deadbolt lock, there is no spring mechanism -- the turning cylinder slides the bolt forward and backward. A deadbolt is more secure than a spring-driven latch since it's much harder to push the bolt in from the side of the door.
Inside a cylinder lock, there is a sort of puzzle, which only the correct key can solve. The main variation in lock designs is the nature of this puzzle. One of the most common puzzles -- and one of the easiest to pick -- is the pin-and-tumbler design, shown below.

The main components in the pin-and-tumbler design are a series of small pins of varying length. The pins are divided up into pairs. Each pair rests in a shaft running through the central cylinder plug and into the housing around the plug. Springs at the top of the shafts keep the pin pairs in position in the plug. When no key is inserted, the bottom pin in each pair is completely inside the plug, while the upper pin is halfway in the plug and halfway in the housing. The position of these upper pins keeps the plug from turning -- the pins bind the plug to the housing. Here's how it works:
When you insert a key, the series of notches in the key push the pin pairs up to different levels. The incorrect key will push the pins so that most of the top pins are still partly in the plug and partly in the housing.

The correct key will push each pin pair up just enough so that the point where the two pins come together lines up perfectly with the space where the cylinder and the housing come together (this point is called the shear line). To put it another way, the key will push the pins up so that all of the upper pins are inserted completely in the housing, while all of the lower pins rest completely in the plug. Without any pins binding it to the housing, the plug moves freely, and you can push the bolt in and out.

This simple puzzle design is very effective. Since the pins are hidden inside the lock, it's fairly difficult for most people to move the plug without the correct key. But, with a lot of practice, it is possible to solve the puzzle by other means. In the next section, we'll see how a locksmith goes about picking this sort of lock.
