saturday came...... and went by quietly for the most of us as no one went to play ultimate. unless i'm missing some one out.

here's a schematic digram of the wham-o disc that was first produced. of course we don't really use these models for ultimate, we use the one's made by discraft.

but it is a good idea to see where things first started.

see ya next week, hit the beach!

Outcome of Mr Ding's case

Updates on William Ding's case.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Teacher convicted of molesting students
By Valarie Tan, Channel NewsAsia Posted: 16 March 2007 2219 hrs

SINGAPORE: A teacher at an all-boys secondary school has been found guilty of molesting his students. 35-year-old William Ding was convicted on three of the nine charges faced.
But sentencing has been postponed for three weeks for the defence to prepare a mitigation plea.
Ding had been accused of molesting four boys, aged between 12 and 14, from 2001 to 2005.
Delivering the verdict on Friday, District Judge Jasbendar Kaur said it was necessary to subject all evidence to careful scrutiny. This was because there were no other witnesses present other than the accused and the victims during the time of the alleged incidents. The court also noted the young age of the victims and their ability to give reliable testimony.
Things looked well for Ding when he was acquitted of the first six outrage-of-modesty charges, with a yelp of "yes" among his supporters. But when he was convicted of the last three charges, there were audible sighs of disappointment and some of his supporters shed tears.
Ding remained expressionless when the verdict was read, but later spoke to his dozens of supporters outside the courtroom after judgement was passed. He thanked them for their support and told them he was "at peace with himself", adding that he would not give up the fight for justice.
The supporters surrounded Ding as they walked out of the courtroom together to shield him from cameras. Speaking to the media after the verdict, the parent of one of the victims said he was glad justice was served.
Ding, who is out on bail, can be fined, caned or jailed for up to two years for each of the convicted charges.

From:
http://www.adpunch.org/entry/anti-smoking-dont-ignore-warning-on-cigarette-packs/

anti-smoking-1_25

anti-smoking2_25

This is another interesting anti-smoking advertisement campaign illustrating various other warning and then comparing it with warning given on a cigarette pack. The advertisement aims to people understand the meaning of a warning unlike the attitude that warning is being generally perceived according to the suitability of a person since the danger is not seen just right at the next step; people increasingly tend to ignore anti-smoking warnings.

The advertisement showing several circumstances when ignoring the warning could lead a person to death. The campaign is undoubtedly visually impeccable that portrays the idea very expressively. The basic text of the campaign reads, ‘you wouldn’t ignore this warning. Why ignore them on cigarette packs?’.

What do you do with your computer when nothing is running?

Don't know about you guys, but I don't really like to waste my computer processing power when it's doing nothing. I've been running this software for abt 4 - 5 years? It's called BOINC. Before this it was called SETI@Home.

You can basically select what do you want the software to run from various organizations. It's all profit-free, or so they say. You can run stuff like proteins research, physics, or even chess game probabilities. Check it out.

BOINC

And here's the wikipedia entry

BOINC Wiki

For those who run it, when you want to use processor intensive stuff. like. BF2142! or, WoW. okay. maybe not WoW. just shutdown the prog.

take off your rainbow shades

now that mark's back on the island. what's next?

since he saw the dmz in korea. why not try hawaii and visit the battleship uss arizona. the largest battleship of her time.

the memorial is built right above the blown wreckage of the ship. visitors take a little ferry out to the site and view the displays in the white structure, while the arizona lays right below them.

a little creepy if you ask me, all them bodies still in the ships hull. with oil leaking by the droplets over the years.

lest we forget.

year of the fox

seems like we're a little behind time

but yeah, if not happy new year
then it's happy lunar new year

Gun kata

gentlemen... this.. is gun kata. enjoy. :)

Friday, February 09, 2007

"Woah."

wow. i just watched this movie "equilibrium" on tv and it was goooooood.

...it was like gattaca on guns...

it brought me back to the day i watch the matrix for the very first time as a wide-eyed 16-year old:

"woah."

seriously dudes, if u haven't watched this or even heard about this movie (released in 2002) u should watch it.

the main protagonist is like 'the one' in the first matrix.. minus all the philosophical mumbo jumbo .. plus u don't have to wait until 5/6th into the movie to get a taste of his neo-like moves.

remember the good old days when we watched flicks like 'the big hit' (1998) or 'face-off' and we were like "wah lieauuuuuuuuuuwww, how the -- did he do that!??!?" ... or remember the silence as our eyes were glued to the projection screen just after neo and trinity demolished the office lift lobby?? .. this movie is like that.

the coolest thing about 'equilibrium' is the gun-fight/fighting scenes... okay okay, so it screams of a matrix rip-off.. but u have to see this to appreciate it for urself...

in the movie, the main character is one of the elite force (known as the Clerics) who practice a form of martial arts called 'gun kata'.... a technique involving all the fighting moves u see in the matrix (sans bullet time) ... plus guns ... in close combat.

gun kata is described in the movie itself as such:

"Through analysis of thousands of recorded gunfights, the Cleric has determined that the geometric distribution of antagonists in any gun battle is a statistically-predictable element. The Gun Kata treats the gun as a total weapon, each fluid position representing a maximum kill zone, inflicting maximum damage on the maximum number of opponents, while keeping the defender clear of the statistically-traditional trajectories of return fire. By the rote mastery of this art, your firing efficiency will rise by no less than 120%. The difference of a 63% increased lethal proficiency makes the master of the Gun Katas an adversary not to be taken lightly."

drool.

aiyah... cannot describe la. go. watch.

interesting to take note

huddle up

here's a shot that i dug up

i was made by the other instructors to pose for pictures back in bmtc. all those staged garang shots were we were all macho and all.

i wasn't really in the sprit of things, thus the lousy camo and the mood face.

but it's a barrel of laughs when we look back.

the 38th parallel

our globe traveller mark tay is heading to the land of kim chee, korea. south korea that is.

departing on monday, wanna wish him a safe journey and bring back lots of pictures and
memories.

here's a shot of the korean dmz. that's where both the commi north meets the free south. the
blue building runs through the 2 countries. the microphone cord inside the room serves as
the true boundry.

The view from the top of the Freedom House pavilion. The large concrete building is in North
Korea. The buildings painted in United Nations blue straddle the border between the two
countries.

The exact border is the raised concrete strip that runs between the blue buildings at the
midpoint, visible in this picture. The half of the buildings in the foreground is South
Korea, the back half is inside North Korea. The border cuts the buildings into two equal
parts, and it is here where Korean delegations from both sides of the border conduct
negotiations

the war's not over, it's currently at a cease fire truce. they're still war yeah. so war can
erupt at any time. but no action for the past 50 years that is.

safe trip mark, kiss kim il's ring for me yeah!

saturday huck, disc in!

saturday, again is around the corner

for the past weeks. some of us have made the effort to hit siloso beach for games of frisbee.
we managed to play a game with some kids from melinia institute, there were about 2 barker boys, they graduated like last year, class of 2006, damn man, we're so old. they called themselves m.i., vs us, l.i.t., long island tea.

final score, a close 6 - 7, with lit winning.

kudos to mark tay for comin down, batter late than never, can't say the same for barnie though. body check!

this is what you missed.

come la.

saturday, 3pm siloso beach. when you see flyin discs, you're at the right spot

go deep!

4 seconds is a life time!

watched any given sunday at marks studio.

set to the back drop of an american football league with fictious team names and no nfl. about 5 games are played in the film for your testosterone pleasure.

when you have to carry out a play that will determine if you win of lose, it can be pretty nerve wercking. but when you have 4 seconds on the clock left to do that. it can feel like a lifetime, or not. every action thus has to be focused.

what's it like to be at the line of scrumage? must feel pretty intense. the picture shows a game between the denver broncos on left taking on the new england patriots, the denver centre is waiting to pass the ball to the quarter back after the quater back calls the snap count.

also included is the lay out for a play. where each player should position himself.

an intense game distances count, down to the inches. but there are lots of stoppages to this game and everyone has a different part to play. roles are not so interchangable but rather specialised. these are the drawbacks i find in this game. lack of fluidity.

what's your favourite position?

inbound 6

as the caption below mentions.

this is an all out attack. see how messy the armada is

especially like the plane at the foreground of the shot by the sdf-1's leg, bit to the right, (not left as the caption states).

it's all overloaded with bombs. so much so that it's kinda tilted to it's side it's the vf-1e, valkarine (valkarines by the way have something to do with some norse myth, true?) imagine you're using all your power just to keep that baby in the air, or space that is.

also, the left background near the sdf-1 leg, notice the cat's eye, the macross/robotech version of the awac. that too looks nice with a dish over its head.

both these planes are slow flyin one's. don't expect a-wing capability.

who we? we3!

we3!

what do you get when you cross terminator and the incredible journey. you get we3. we3 tells the story of 3 pet animals, a dawg, cat and rabbit. these guys have been given high end military hardware wired into their systems. it's so advanced, that they can "talk". with limited vocabulary though.

the dawg's the "tank" equiped with surface to air, the cat's the "stealth fighter", all hush and slick, the rabbit's the "mine layer" of the group, it "shits" mines to shake off it's trail.
it's 3 issues. the art's great and price by now has gone up. ding says it's 15 bucks each. that's 45 bucks in total for the 3 issues. day light sia.

so some snaps to oggle, enjoy and dream.

fright of the intruder

the a6 intruder, the pride of the united states navy. all weather carrier based sub sonic
bomber.

this baby has the ability to deliver it's max pay load of about 18000kg to it's target, spot
on at low visibility and rough weather. it was described that the vietnam war could have
been won if it was a stormy night every night, that meant the intruder was able to deliver
it's bombs and anti aircraft would have a hard time shooting or even finding it.

the body shape of the intruder makes it unique and also it's seating configeration of pilot
and bombardier/navigator being side by side. instead of the f-4 or f-14's one behind the
other configeration. kinda feels like being in a car with a navigator. the bombing range of the intruder still exceeds the cabilities of the navy's existing birds. only the sub sonic speed of the intruder makes it open to anti air attacks.

what's your choice of hardware?
